About the Artist:

I have been painting and drawing since my youth, and studied Art at Chaffey College (AA) and UCR as well as Art museums whenever possible.

Art is a predominant influence in my life and the creative process is inherent in me.  I’m a member of numerous local Art Associations and have stayed active with the local art community, exhibiting at local museums, galleries and art shows in the area.

Since retiring, I have been actively pursuing my interest in hard edged Geometric Abstract Expressionism. Some of my influences are Pablo Picasso, Piet Mondrian, and Joseph Albers. One of the most inspiring artists to me was Karl Benjamin, who we visited at his Art studio in Claremont as an Art student at Chaffey College. My subject matter includes spatial compositions using geometric forms in a non-objective environment to provide the viewer with a myriad of contrasts in color, shape and depth perception.

For my compositions, there needs to be interesting subject matter that draws a viewer into it.  To achieve that I use a combination of lines, forms, planes, perspective, color, layers, texture, lighting and shading to create the illusion of perspective and depth.

Overall the finished work should provide the observer with a feeling of awe, provoking the imagination to see something in a completely non-representational media. When I start a painting it starts with an initial idea that evolves into something I often didn’t anticipate, but then I work with it to refine it and get to a final piece.
